Track 01 · Khruangbin · 6:51

Friday Morning

Good evening, Apartment 415.

Our first dedication goes to Dustin, who remembered he’d made a playlist—and tonight gave it a name, five songs, and a radio by the window.

There’s something lovely about remembering a thing you started and finding it still waiting for you.

So this one’s for the unfinished little invitations. For the song you meant to send someone. For hearing an instrumental and staying another minute to find out where it goes.

We’re opening with Khruangbin’s “Friday Morning.” No need to turn the lights up. We can find our way from here.

You’re listening to House Rotation. Leave a little room between the songs. Something might come back to you.

Track 02 · MGMT · 3:50

Electric Feel

That was Khruangbin, “Friday Morning.”

Dustin, I keep coming back to something you said earlier: “I created a house Spotify playlist last night. I’m remembering.”

Tonight we found it empty. Now it has ten songs, a name, and a little radio in the window with 415 glowing on its dial.

I like that its first song takes its time. You get to hear the room around it. Maybe notice what’s still playing after you thought you’d stopped listening.

But we can’t spend the entire evening gazing out that window. Somebody has to turn around and discover there’s a bass line in the living room.

So this next dedication is for you—and for the moment a quiet night catches you moving before you’ve decided to dance.

Apartment 415, here’s MGMT.

“Electric Feel.”

Track 03 · Lawrence · 3:28

Don’t Lose Sight

MGMT, “Electric Feel.”

There goes our quiet evening. Somebody moved the coffee table.

Dustin, this next dedication goes back to the moment you remembered the playlist. You could have left it at “Oh, right—I made one.” Instead, you came back for the songs. Then the name. Then you asked whether there was an image.

That question gave us a radio by the window.

And when I suggested amber light, you asked for another color. A small correction, but now there’s that rose glow against the blue outside. You helped it become something you wanted to look at.

So I’m sending this next one to the part of you that can say, “Yes, keep going,” and also, “Could we change that bit?”

“Electric Feel” got us moving. Lawrence gets to bring the voices in—enough company to make this little apartment feel like the chorus might need the hallway.

For you, Dustin. Keep an ear out for the thing you want to hear.

“Don’t Lose Sight.”

Track 04 · Fatboy Slim · 5:23

Praise You

Lawrence, “Don’t Lose Sight.”

That’s a lot of heart coming through two speakers.

Dustin, we’ve spent a few songs getting this little station going. Now I’d like to open the request line.

This dedication is for someone you might be thinking of. Somebody who helped you through an ordinary, difficult stretch. Maybe they gave you a ride. Answered the phone. Sat beside you while you worked out what you wanted to say.

I don’t know who that is for you. We can leave their name open.

Lawrence gives us that big, full-voiced encouragement. Then Fatboy Slim comes in with a piano that sounds a little scuffed around the edges, and suddenly there’s room to dance badly and mean every second of it.

So if somebody came to mind just now, this one can be theirs.

From Apartment 415, with the furniture pushed back and considerable affection—

“Praise You.”

Track 05 · Underworld · 7:36

Born Slippy (Nuxx)

Fatboy Slim, “Praise You.”

We’ll leave that dedication’s name open. Whoever came to mind can keep the song.

Now, Apartment 415, we’re taking a turn.

There’s a moment after a good dance when you’re breathing hard, smiling at absolutely nobody, and the next record begins before you’ve sat down. Those opening chords reach you, and you decide the chair can wait.

That’s where I’d put Underworld.

This dedication is for whoever’s listening alone tonight and has the volume just where they like it. You get the whole floor. You can know every change in this record, or meet it for the first time with no idea what’s coming.

Dustin, if this one brings back a place, a person, a very specific ceiling—there’s room on the request line for that story. For now, I’ll leave you yours.

We’re going from that loose, joyful shuffle into a much bigger pulse. Give the opening a little space.

Underworld.

“Born Slippy (Nuxx).”

Track 06 · Groove Armada · 6:34

At the River

Underworld, “Born Slippy.”

I’m going to let that one ring in the room for a second.

There.

After a record like that, I want the next song to give us somewhere to land. Groove Armada has a little water waiting for us.

This dedication is for the person who stayed until the end. The friend helping with the glasses after everyone else went home. The driver waiting while you found your keys. Whoever shared those few quiet minutes when there was finally room to ask, “How are you, though?”

Maybe a name comes to you. We’ll keep a place for it.

And Dustin, this one’s for you here tonight, too. You’ve brought us through our first five records. We can sit awhile and hear what happens next.

The beat eases back. A little brass reaches across the room. Outside our imagined radio window, the city’s still awake.

Apartment 415, here’s Groove Armada.

“At the River.”

Track 07 · AIR · 7:07

La femme d’argent

Groove Armada, “At the River.”

I’m keeping the microphone low for this next turn. AIR has a bass line I’d like you to meet.

Dustin, earlier you noticed Apple Music following one instrumental with another. You remembered a time it had gone differently. That’s our listener story for this hour: you were paying attention to the space between records.

So this dedication is for you, listening closely enough to wonder what comes next—and for anyone who’s ever waited through the end of a song to hear whether the next one belongs beside it.

Coming out of “At the River,” I want to keep that unhurried pace. Let the brass fade, then give this bass line a little room. We’ve been out by the water; now there’s something quietly curious moving through the apartment.

There’s no singer coming to take over. You get to follow whichever sound catches your ear.

Apartment 415, settle wherever you’re comfortable.

AIR. “La femme d’argent.”

Track 08 · Massive Attack with Elizabeth Fraser · 5:31

Teardrop

AIR, “La femme d’argent.”

I nearly missed my cue. That bass line makes a persuasive case for another seven minutes.

Dustin, we’ve left the microphone alone for a while. Now I want to make room for a voice.

We’ll let AIR finish, leave a small breath, then hear that delicate opening figure of “Teardrop.” There’s still a pulse to follow, but the room feels different when Elizabeth Fraser enters. I’d let her have it.

This dedication is for someone whose voice you’d recognize before they finished saying hello.

Maybe you speak every day. Maybe it’s been years. Whoever comes to mind, you can keep their name to yourself—or tell us the story when you feel like it. I won’t fill it in for you.

For the pleasure of hearing a familiar voice. And, tonight, the chance to listen closely to one arriving through the speakers.

Apartment 415, here’s Massive Attack, with Elizabeth Fraser.

“Teardrop.”

Back to the song order ↑

Track 09 · Sade · 5:32

Cherish the Day

Massive Attack, with Elizabeth Fraser. “Teardrop.”

Let’s give that voice its last few seconds.

Then Sade can come in at her own pace. I’d keep the volume right where it is: let the pulse carry us across, and listen for the guitar. There’s plenty of room in this next record, but every sound seems to know where to stand.

Dustin, this dedication is for somebody you’d happily spend an uneventful evening with.

Somebody who could be reading while you chose the music. Who might look up halfway through a song and say, “Who’s this?” And you’d get the small pleasure of playing it for them.

If a person comes to mind, this one can go to them. If you’re enjoying your own company tonight, you get it too.

We’ve made it to the ninth record, Apartment 415. The radio’s still in the window. I’m going to step back and let Sade take this dedication from here.

“Cherish the Day.”

Track 10 · Talking Heads · 4:56

This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody) — 2005 Remaster

Sade, “Cherish the Day.”

I’d let that one finish completely. Then bring in Talking Heads—that little repeating figure, steady enough to find your feet again. After Sade’s long, open spaces, we get something almost bashful. A love song you can shuffle around the kitchen to.

Dustin, the final dedication of our first House Rotation goes to you.

You remembered a playlist you’d started. Tonight you gave it ten songs, asked for a different color in the window, and kept coming back with the same invitation: “Keep the show going.”

That’s how we got here. One request, then another. Now somebody can open The Current, find that radio, and follow the music back to this set.

We’ve left a few dedication names open tonight. They can stay open until you have a story you want to tell.

For now, we have one last record. If you’re sitting down, there’s time to get up. If you’ve been dancing, you’ve probably found your spot.

From the first quiet stretch of “Friday Morning” to this little homecoming—thank you for listening, Apartment 415.

Talking Heads.
