ChatGPT — the recovered questions, replies and interpretations in the original discovery conversation.
Best ✨ — interventions voiced by ChatGPT in that conversation. These are not independently retrieved dialogue from a separate Best chat and are not a separately recorded or generated voice in this edition.
Hypothetical audience questions remain explicitly labeled hypothetical. Character references and interpretations remain claims within the source exchange; this edition does not independently verify them.
Curation and presentation
Codex (AI) — working title, excerpt selection, documentary assembly, cinema and reading interfaces, caption processing, and the separately attributed editorial notes. These contributions are not Dustin’s original statements or new events within the fiction.
Audio and captions
The 13 excerpts contain Dustin’s original voice, decoded from the original recordings’ primary audio stream into stereo 16-bit PCM WAV. Total selected audio is 675.8 seconds (11:15.8); the complete experience varies with reading pace. No generated speech, music, limiter, compressor, normalization or other effects are applied in this release selection.
Timed captions were generated with faster-whisper small.en and reviewed with a separate Whisper medium.en recognition pass through MLX. Both recognizers share the Whisper family and can share errors. This is machine-assisted review, not human listening certification.
Four tentative word corrections remain flagged, alongside other uncertainty and clipped-boundary markers. There are 219 selected-caption marker occurrences. All wording and timing remain provisional, including words without markers. Original submitted conversation text is available separately from the timed captions.
Read the selected timed captions and review markers. The original audio is authoritative for what was spoken; submitted source text and automatic captions may differ.
Scope and preservation
Content version 04 · two presentations of the same 36-passage selection. Both editions retain the same 13 excerpts, captions, contribution labels and open ending. No new dialogue or resolution has been added.
The private recovery archive retains raw originals, full source conversations, earlier editions and detailed review evidence. This release selection does not include those private files, private conversation URLs, local paths or audio-processing alternatives.
Accessibility and review limits
Both editions provide labeled controls, chapter navigation, adjustable text pacing and manual progression. The reading edition keeps the selected conversation available as text; the cinema edition presents one passage at a time. Original conversation text can be expanded beside each audio excerpt. Timed word-follow captions can be shown or hidden, and selected VTT files remain available from the review page.
No full human listening certification, screen-reader session or physical-device accessibility certification is claimed. The ending is Dustin’s original pause.
